An introduction to the Polish Community: Culture, Healthcare and Domestic Violence

In partnership with the London Maternity Clinical Network, via the Strategic Migration Partnership is providing cultural awareness information, guidance and advice for London Maternity Professionals to create and embed effective Maternity care pathways for all Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Groups across London.

London Clinical Network is working in partnership with Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Groups to deliver interactive two hour workshops to provide an introductory insight into the cultural barriers and adaptions that can be implemented when supporting and engaging with specific groups. The tenth workshop with be delivered in partnership with Vesta – Specialist Family Support CIC, Empowering Polish Families in England and Wales.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Recognise the difference between Polish culture and British culture
  • Understand the difference between the NHS and Polish Healthcare system particularly in terms of maternity care
  • Recognise the reasons why Polish people may return to Poland for healthcare support
  • Understand the barriers, which may affect Polish community engagement with services and identify possible solutions
  • Domestic violence in the Polish community

Presenters will use power point presentations, visual materials and facilitate case studies discussions. Each trainee will receive relevant hand-outs for future reference and a CPD certificate after completion over evaluation surveys.

Audience: London Maternity Staff.

These workshops will not be recorded. CPD Certificates will be available for professionals that attend the session and complete the feedback survey.
