Afghans to benefit from well-being and work programme extension

The funders for our project, the Asylum Migration Integration Fund from UKRA, approached us to develop additional project outputs aimed specifically at resettled Afghans in the East of England.

We are pleased to say that they approved our plans and we are now working with our existing partners and are tendering for subcontractors for us to be able to:

  • Deliver mobile English classes to Afghans who aren’t living close to an existing service, or who have large families and can’t manage the travel needed to get to a class on top of caring – in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Suffolk.
  • Co-produce an ESOL summer school curriculum with an Afghan with the lived experience of resettlement on health literacy. To be delivered over 5 weeks for new Afghan arrivals to empower them with the skills to use the NHS effectively to improve health outcomes in Peterborough, Norwich and Colchester.
  • Run a language café in Bedford to enable the existing Afghans in the town to support the new arrivals on their journey to integration.
