This is an introductory course for partners who have little or no prior knowledge of the support options for people with no recourse to public funds and who may need to make referrals to social services.

What you’ll learn

  • What ‘no recourse to public funds’ means and who this applies to
  • When social services duties to provide accommodation and financial support may apply to an adult or family with no recourse to public funds
  • How to make a referral to social services when a person requires support
  • Other support and signposting options for a person with no recourse to public funds who is at risk of homelessness

Course outline

  • Overview of the UK immigration system and how immigration status affects entitlements to services
  • Social services’ support provided under section 17 of the Children Act 1989 and the Care Act 2014
  • Making referrals into social services for accommodation and financial support
  • Support for asylum seekers and victims of modern slavery
  • Good practice, and signposting information for people with no recourse to public funds and officers who may need to make referrals into social services
